Eddie Weller, Houston History Alliance Board

A professor at San Jacinto College since 1989, Eddie Weller earned a Ph.D. in History from Texas Christian University in 1993. Having founded the San Jacinto College Honors Program in 1996, he returned as its director in 2013. An active historian, he is the author or editor of seven books, readers, or study guides, including Joe T. Robinson: Always a Loyal Democrat (University of Arkansas Press, 1998), as well as chapters in books dealing with Texas History. He has twice been nominated by his colleagues for the Minnie Stevens Piper Award.

In 2003 Dr. Weller won the Texas State Historical Association’s highest teaching award, The Mary Jo and J.P. Bryan Leadership in Education Award. He is has served as the president of the Southwestern Social Sciences Association (2011-2012) and as the president of the Southwestern Historical Association (2004-2005). In addition he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas State Historical Association (2007-2014, secretary 2013-2014), and as the chair of TSHA’s Education committee 2006-2014. Since 2012 he has served as the director of volunteers for the San Jacinto Day Festival. In addition to teaching, he has served as the department chair for Behavioral and Social Sciences at San Jacinto College South. He has been married to Lanetta since 1986; they have one son Trey, who recently graduated summa cum laude from Texas State University.
