Angela Boswell

Worrying Women, Working Women: Houston Area Women during Civil War and Reconstruction

Angela Boswell earned her Ph. D. in Southern U.S. History from Rice University in 1998 and is currently Professor of History at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She is the author of “Her Act and Deed: Women’s Lives in a Rural Southern County, 1837-1873”, which won the Liz Carpenter Award from the Texas State Historical Association. She is also the co-editor of two volumes in the University of Missouri Press’s Southern Women series and of numerous chapters on women in Texas.

Dr. Boswell is currently finishing a narrative history of Texas women from the beginning to the present, contributing to an anthology on women in Civil War-era Texas edited by Debbie Liles for the university and beginning research on a monograph on the same subject.
