Announcing The Houston History Alliance!

The Houston History Association is officially changing its name to The Houston History Alliance as of June 1, 2015.  Our new name reinforces our commitment to serve as a resource for Houston’s existing historical, preservation, and educational organizations and institutions.

Formed in 2005 by then-Mayor Bill White and Betty Trapp Chapman, the Association was intended to provide a common forum for educating Houstonians about the city’s history.

Each year, HHA holds an annual Houston History Conference. We are also officially launching our production of the Handbook of Houston History in conjunction with the Texas State Historical Association. The Handbook will be published online as part of TSHA’s Handbook of Texas. We also generate a monthly newsletter and created the “Guide for Researching Neighborhood Histories.” Members also appear the first Friday of every month on KPFT’s Open Journal to talk about our local history.

Look for further expansion of our programming as we move forward to further spread the word about Houston’s diverse past.
